Vegetable production is expanding to feed the growing urban population in Sub-Saharan Africa. To protect crops against pests small-holder farmers use intensive chemical control which pollutes the environment and threatens public health. Eco-friendly nets were successfully tested by a team of scientists from many institutions with small farmers in Benin and Kenya. These simple and easy to use nets allowed reducing insecticide sprays by 70 to 100% for cabbage and tomato crops.
